Hero Project Redemption Season App Reviews

Loved.

Im a fan of this community and have read most of there books. I have read all three book before this one in the hero rise series. When I heard that in this one you would play as a new character I was skeptical. But after reading it I fell in love with the main character. Plus Jk is awesome. But sure there are some areas lacking... Like I wanted to get to know all of the characters in depth a little more... Plus I thought that the relationship part was too fast. Not the biggest issues but to be fair this is just the beginning. I cant wait for the next one.

Falls far short of previous efforts...pass

The reality show was probably the high water mark of this authors other series, but this one just appears to be long on wind and short on action. Question: what sort of RPG has you describe your characters powers long before your characters gender or orientation? Presumably this is some sort of message from the author, but I came here for a fun adventure, not to read the pretentious opinions of some windbag. Give this one a pass. If you want to see a Choice of Games app that handles political messages well, try Choice of Robots.

Great!

Redemption is great so far! Im so looking forward to the next episode!

Amazing

It was an amazing story to be a part of!

Its a mixed bag

I really like the universe these stories take place in, but this new installment of the series left me feeling disappointed. The story itself is pretty good, but I was unhappy to see the return of the Hero Project as a key plot point in the game (I personally found the gameshow, reality-TV bullshittery annoying in the original games, but thats just me and I dont hold it against the author). My biggest bone to pick with this game is with the main character. In the original series you were given the chance to fully shape your characters personality, goals, ect. and really make him/her feel like (s)he was you. In this game all that freedom has been taken away as the author has already decided what what the main points of your characters personally are going to be. The worst part of this is that he chose to make YOUR character a whiner with a victim complex so huge its hard to become attached and every time my character goes into one of his awkward, preachy, mental self-pity/ political correctness parties I want to rip my hair out. Additionally the story is pretty much on rails leaving the only significant agency youre given in making your character is how he/she/it/they/(whatever pronoun you use to describe someone who identifies as a tube of toothpaste) fights. Despite this, I think that this storyline could really go some where if the author would step off of the soapbox and address the relevant issues he is concerned with in an organic way that flows well with the story instead of cramming his point of view down our throats.

I really wanted to like it

I really loved the first three games. They were beautifully written and had great plots and narratives. But this one.. This one just felt preachy. I understand if you want to make a political statement, but you have to let the reader draw their own conclusions. Every other page seemed like a political rant. Being smacked over the head every page about the authors views is just infuriating and destroys any storyline. I loved the first three, but I wont be buying the next.

Linear and Preachy

I attempted to play a character who did not care about politics, yet still found myself watching as the character had an epiphany regarding intersecting structures of oppression. I wish I had read the other reviews before buying, as they warned of these tendencies.

Good Game, Good Writing!

I enjoyed the game, I find the different powers each day a nice spin on our hero. I enjoy the issues raised and discuss since it relates well in our world, but I feel it shouldnt be limited on just those areas, maybe there can be a touch up on subjects like pollution, drug addiction, over population, things that also contain relevance in todays world, Im eager to see how it affects in the world of heroes and maybe if our character lends a hand in these problems. One more thing I would like to see added is more info and scenes of our old character hero! Keep up the good work!

Representation matters

As a massive fan of the original Heroes Rise trilogy, I had high hopes and expectations for this first installation of the follow-up series. I was not disappointed. One of my favorite aspects of the books is how, as you advance, the narrative and thematic focus transitions from the individual struggle of your hero into considering how your actions effect the world and attitude of the people around you. Zachary Sergeis awareness of the still-relevant need for dialogue about representation of minorities, systematic oppression and prejudice elevated the Heroes Rise trilogy from a collection of entertaining games into one of my favorite literary pieces. With the Redemption Season, hes done it again, expanding both the world and the central argument with a refreshing new perspective. Fun, thought-provoking, and progressive, both this app and his previous works are definitely worth the purchase.

Too preachy and hard to get into fully

I am half way through the book/game so far and I want to like it I really do. The first series I was so in love with so its sad for me not to be able to love this new break off series as well. I agree actually with most of the forced political agenda blatantly strewn about this game, that all people should have equal rights and that gay people are awesome. BUT! Its too preachy man, like just as bad as Christian preachy, they love to place messages in all of their stuff. It really interfered with me being able to get lost in the game like I did with the old series. I feel disconnected because Im assaulted with too much politics and activism. Tone it down man, its too much. Have your own platform and put on rallys, I would be there but just dont put it all in the game... Its too hard to enjoy that way. Would have given this 2 stars but made it a 3 star because the MeChip was a pleasant surprise.

AMAZING!!!!!!

I love all of the heroes rise games!!! This one was so awesome. It has relatable characters, interesting main story arch, and lots of decisions to make!! Love it!!

AWESOME Story!

I cant believe that I could love this story as much , if not more, as the previous trilogy. Especially, I played the trilogy game again before playing this one since my mind was still fresh from my infini MC. The new characters are more engaging as ever and the plot is a powerful driven one. A somewhat parallel of what is happening to our world today. I just love it and I couldnt stop playing the game that I had to finish it even if it means losing my sleep. Keep it up Zachary! I hope that you can continually make these amazing powerful stories and I look forward to your future works more than ever.

Even better than the original series!

This game was so great! I felt so accomplished by the end and I cannot wait for the next installment, which better come out soon!!

Too short, too political

Being a fan if the original Heroes Rise trilogy, I cant help but feel let down by this entry. At least once per chapter, there was at least one character delivering a speech about the underrepresented minorities. Either the Ani Powereds, roughly translating to race, the Disembodied, roughly translating to transgender, and the morphos, roughly translating to the rest of the LGBT+ community. It feels too preachy when delivering a political message, which the first trilogy did, just less so, so that the rest of the story felt like it had substance. In comparison to the first three books, I felt as though the game played out much too short. It doesnt seem to have much choice, but that is mainly because it is making ground work for the sequels. My heart sank when I felt like the story was finally picking up great speed and excitement, only to see "Next: Epilouge" written at the bottom, indicating that the story was over, barely one fourth of what I expected. However, I would still recomend this to anyone, as I am still hopeful for the series, as the ground work laid out before you seems as though it will be very exciteing. Ultimately, to get a much better experience, you should play the original heroes rise series first.

Wow

Fantastic. I liked it much better than the previous three Heroes Rise stories (but theyre still pretty good too).

Amazing!

Just a great as the previous entries, perhaps even more!

Rich world, clever writing, deep meaning

Just like the Heroes Rise books before it, Redemption Season immerses the reader in an engaging, complex world with engaging, complex characters. And as always, Zach navigates issues of identity and prejudice with grace and wit. I love this book!

Amazing

Seriously how much better can you guys get? I mean I love this series so much. Choice of games are the only games I buy and I would pay double for the hero series. Seriously though expand this game, dont take away, and you guys are in the good

Absolutely Blown Away

When I bought this game a few hours ago, I expected to be good, even great, judging by the past games. I didnt expect to be so mind-openly diverse, and so much more varied than the last series, while still maintaining that unique touch from the original heroes rise.Amazing game, through and through.

Super liberal

The characters discuss identity politics through the metaphor of superpower identities, and although its well-written, its impossible to play as an apolitical, a conservative, or even a moderate. Its very preachy.
